Jim rides a train from Versailles, via Paris, to fulfill a lifetime dream of visiting the home of Impressionist Artist, Claude Monet in Giverny, France. Monet lived from 1840-1926.
The village of Giverny is enchanting. Follow this sign to Monet's home and garden.
The walk to Monet's house is fragrant and abundant with foliage. Remarkably, the home, with its famous gardens, sits right in the village of Giverny. Monet could look out at his private paradise, or out another window to the village streets and his neighbors' homes.
At last, a view of the house itself.
As one approaches the home, it seems that anybody living here would naturally become an inspired artist.
There is enchantment throughout the estate.
Inside, we see valuable masterpieces by Monet, and by famous artist friends, decorating cozy rooms in which the Monet family lived their daily lives.
A view over the front gardens from Monet's upstairs bedroom window. The day of our visit was drizzly, which kept the summer crowds down, and the colorful umbrellas fit right in with the bright hues of the flowers.
Jim loved the home, as you can tell from his smile.
And finally, here are the water lilies—Monet's most famous subject. This pond at his estate looks so much like his beautiful paintings. He spent years sculpting the land, channeling the streams, shaping the pond and planting the stunning plants. And he painted it all.

How does one EVER stop taking pictures of this beautiful place?
One can just imagine Monet packing his little boat with a small lunch and his painting tools and rowing it to the "perfect" setting for his next painting. Note the bamboo in the background. During the heyday of the Impressionists, Japan was opened up to westerners, and Japanese arts, including gardening concepts, greatly influenced some of the Impressionists.
In Monet's home are a number of Japanese art objects, and some of his portraits of his wife show her in kimono-style clothing.
